Misikko Review and GIVEAWAY

5130782

Several months ago, the beauty experts at Misikko, sent over a Hanaair Professional Hair Dryer, one of the top selling products from their Hana Salon.  The people at Misikko sell all things beauty, from hair dryers to curling irons, and I've been lucky to test (and love) several of their products.  I've had my eye on a fancypants hair dryer for a while, but couldn't quite fit the cost into my "why in the world did I ever decide to get a Ph.D" budget.  So I considered it quite serendipitous when they contacted me to review their premiere hair dryer.

I filmed an upboxing video several months ago when I first received the product (see that video here), but rather than review it right away, I decided to use it for a while before I gave it a full review.  Three months have passed, and my final verdict is in.  It is simply amazing.  No joke.  Amazing.  And rather than write a rambling review about it, (cause yall know I can ramble), I decided to list what I love most.

5130771

1. It signicantly reduces drying time.  You probably expected this one, and in reality, it's one of the things I love most about the dryer.  I have insanely thick hair, and if I want to go from shower to completely dry hair, I usually spend about 45 minutes with a hair dryer.  But not now.  My drying time has been cut in half, which gives me more time for morning snoozing.  A win win for me.

2. The hair dryer doesn't get that hot.  I've tried several fancypants hair dryers before, and everytime, I felt the need to keep a fire extinguisher neaby.  The air and the hair dryer itself would get so hot, I could literally feel my hair burning.  But not the Hanaair.  The hot setting in totally manageable, which makes for more pleasant primp sessions and much healthier hair!

3. The settings are simple.  Easy to read switches give me options without feeling overwhelmed.  2 fan speeds, 3 heat settings, and a cold shot.  Sweet and simple, just how I like it.

4. My hair stays straighter for longer between washes.  It's no secret, I've shared before that I only wash my hair twice a week (with the help of dry shampoo.)  It used to be that after I slept on my "day 1 hair," I would wake up with a frizzy mess.  But not anymore.  It's as if the hair dryer completely dries my hair, rather than just drying the outer layers.  It's amazing.

Those things said, I think Matt reviewed the hair dryer best when he said, "You don't know how awesome it is until you use it and then go back to your old dryer."  You see, Matt didn't really see the point in a fancy hair dryer, so he kind of thought I will silly for getting all excited.  So when I packed the hair dryer with me to take on internship, he quickly noted  the difference.  And I have to agree; the difference is impressive.

So if you're in the market for a new hair dryer, wanting something to help cut down your morning dry time, or looking for a way to boost the health of your hair, I'd definitely look into the Hanaair Hair Dryer.  The difference is definitely noticable!  PS: the dryer is super on sale right now, so if you're thinking about buying it, now is an awesome time to scoop it up!

And because the beauty team at Misikko is so incredible, they're offering to give away another Hana miracle product...the Shine Shield.  I've raved about this product before, and I still swear by it.   To be entered to win a 6 oz. bottle of the Shine Shield (an almost $50 value!), click on this link and sign up for the Misikko newsletter.  That's it.  No tweeting, no Facebook following, no extra entries.  Just sign up for the newsletter and leave a comment telling me you did so.  Please include your email address in the comment, so that I can verify you're on the newsletter email list.  The giveaway will close on Tuesday, May 22 at 11:59 pm and is open to US residents only.

A special thanks for Misikko for my fabulous new hair dryer and for offering the Shine Shield to one lucky Smart and Sassy with Sprinkles reader!

PS: Curious about my hair routine?  You can read more about in this post.

Misikko Review and My First Ever Blog Video

This weekend, I am so excited to share my first ever blog video!  I've gotten lots of requests for a blog video, and after much delay, I finally gave in.  (I really didn't think the whole world needed to experience my Minnie Mouse on video voice!)  The timing was also right, considering that I'm partnering with Misikko for a product review and giveaway.  The package came in the mail this week, and though I haven't yet had a chance to use the products, I thought I'd give you a sneak peek into the package.  (Particularly because Misikko has the most beautiful packaging!)  I'll be back within the next week or two for a full review and giveaway details, but until then, enjoy a first hand look at all the goodies that arrived and an early jump on what you might be able to win!

And let me know what you think about blog videos...more in the future or please don't ever record another one? :)

A Roadtrip in Numbers (and a Giveaway Winner!)

Bucees

2,263 miles driven...
36 hours roundtrip in the car...
9 caffeinated beverages consumed...
7 times "Santa tracker" (aka my mom) texted to see our location..
14 Missy Elliott songs jammed...
4 times Matt gave me the "what are those dance moves?" look...
700 dollars saved by driving instead of flying...
12 minutes I had to cover my nose and mouth in Missouri.  Who knew the border of that state was so stinky?...
5 podcasts listened to...
67 dollars spent at Bucees, my roadtrip Mecca...
(Wondering how on Earth you could spend $67 without getting gas?  2 Circle E candles, 3 made to order sandwiches, 2 bags of chocolate covered pretzels, 2 cokes, 1 coconut bar, and 1 bag of Bucees beaver nuggets.  Heaven!)...
3 consecutive times Beyonce's "Run the World" was blasted...
21 outfits packed by me...
1 McDonalds goodie consumed...
(You can't go on a roadtrip at not stop at McDonalds at least once!)...
4 restrooms that made me cringe and wonder why Bucees don't exist nationwide...
2 times we sighed, "It's so good to be home."

Our time in Texas was fabulous (see pictures here), and all in all, our roadtrip to and from wasn't that bad.  When we initially decided to drive, we were optimistic, but as December 22 neared, I began to question if we'd maintain our sanity during such a long car ride.  But halfway into our journey, I realized it wasn't so bad, especially as I thought about the crowded airports and the screaming baby that seems to always sit near me on a plane.  Even as Matt and I pulled into Chicago, after 2,263 miles of driving, we both agreed we made the right choice and that it wasn't so bad.  In fact, we might even do it again :)

And for the winner of the recent Stella and Dot giveaway...congrats Kayla!  You are the newest owner of the "On the Mark" necklace.  Please email Sara (sara.k.michael@gmail.com) to claim your lovely necklace.  Another big thanks to Sara for sponsoring this giveaway.  And if you didn't yet "like" Sara's FB page, I suggest you do so, because its rumored that she has some exclusive FB giveaways and deals coming up.  Just an early heads up :)

Hope your week is going well, we're almost to Friday!

Stella and Dot GIVEAWAY!

Stella and dot 21

Today I am thrilled to be hosting a delightful giveaway, and just in time for the holidays!  The fabulousness of Stella & Dot is no secret; they have taken the girly world by storm and have most of us catching our breath at our computers.  I love that they do big, bold baubles and super, sweet delicates; you simply can't go wrong.  And today, I am so excited to share a giveaway, hosted by Sara Michael, an independent stylist for Stella & Dot.

Sara is an Oklahoma based Stella & Dot stylist, whose first love is being a mom to two insanely cute little boys, Canon and Crew.  (Ya'll know I'm not exactly on the baby train, but oh my goodness, her little ones are literally the cutest kids I've ever seen!  Seriously, they're crazy adorable.)  Sara and I actually know each other from our OU Kappa days, and I have to admit, Sara has always been one of those girls that looks cute no matter what.  For reals.  When you live with 96 girls, you see it all, and I kid you not, I've never seen the girl not looking anything but adorable.  She is beautiful on the inside and out, which makes her a perfect fit for Stella & Dot.  She has been able to focus on being a mommy while still sharing her super chic style with girls everywhere.  Everytime I creep on her Facebook, I instantly want every Stella & Dot bauble!

Sara is offering one lucky Smart and Sassy with Sprinkles reader the "On the Mark" necklace, which I am obsessed with!  Simple enough for every day, yet chic enough to make a statement.  To enter...

1. Visit and like Sara's Facebook page and leave her a wall post letting her know what your favorite Stella & Dot piece is.

2. Then come back here and comment below, telling me something you like or want to see more of on my little blog.  I like to know what keeps my readers happy :)
*You must do both steps to be entered in the giveaway.

But wait, that's not all!  Anyone who orders from Sara through my online trunk show will be entered to win a pair of soiree studs. Score!  Annnnd...if you sign up to host a trunk show or be a Stella & Dot stylist through her, you get $75 in free jewelry.  (Umm, yes please!)  If you don't live in Oklahoma, don't worry, because Sara travels up to five hours outside of Edmond, Oklahoma to host shows. Five hours!  So if you're in Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, or Arkansas and have been wanting to host a girls night, this is your perfect chance.  And you'll get free jewelry, woo hoo!

To shop with Sara, visit her Stella & Dot site and browse till your bling loving heart is content.  When you're ready to check out, you'll be prompted to create a log in.  Once you do that, it will take you to the page below, asking if you were invited to a trunk show.  Choose Allison Davis from the drop down menu, complete the rest of your check out process, and you'll instantly be entered for a chance to win a pair of soiree studs, courtesy of Sara.

Drop down instruction

I've got a few people left to shop for, and I know I'll be the favorite gift giver with anything Stella & Dot.  (And since I've been a good girl this year, I'm hoping Santa will deliver a little something Stella & Dot in my stocking!)  As soon as I can persuade Sara to head up to Chicago (a little outside her five hour range), I'm gonna host a trunk show of my own.  But until then, I'm hosting blogstyle and hoping someone very special wins this giveaway.  The "On the Mark" necklace is the perfect thing to sweeten up this holiday season!

Entries will be accepted through Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 11:59 pm.  A big thanks to Sara for hosting this fabulous giveaway and for being so dang chic and inspiring!

Iron and Wine Concert and Giveaway Winners

Last Monday, Matt and I headed to Millennium Park to hear one of our newish (yep, that's a word) favorite bands, Iron and Wine.  They were a part of Millennium Park's free New Music Monday series, which gives Chicagoans the opportunity to gather in their favorite park and listen to great music...for free!  The concert was crowded as hell (literally, it was slightly insane) and we snagged one of the last open spots inside the pavilion.  Which meant for an hour we got to watch people beg and plead with park police, jump over barricades, and run through bushes.  It definitely provided good pre-show entertainment :)

DSCN5016If you haven't heard of Iron and Wine, you should definitely check out their website where you can listen to their newest album.  (My favorite songs are Boy with a Coin and Tree by the River.)  The Head and the Heart opened the show, and as much as I enjoyed them, I was kinda let down by the weird version they did of my favorite song, Lost in my Mind.  (If want a midday jam out song, listen to it.  I love it.)

DSCN5015We packed a little picnic, found a spot along the fence, and made friends with our blanket neighbors, who happened to be responsible DePaul students.  (They brought their math homework with them!)

DSCN5009There are few things I love more in the summer than plaid picnic blankets and armfuls of thrifted/gifted bracelets.

DSCN5007I literally wear this hat every chance I get.  Even if Matt calls me "Indiana" (aka Indiana Jones) when I put it on.

DSCN5010Lol, what a stud :)

DSCN5020Oh how we love our city.  I'm so happy we get to stay here for a long while!

And now for the giveaway news...the winner of the $50 gift certificate to Ellaine's Stella &Dot e-boutique is Alexandria!  (Congrats girlie, send me an email and I'll forward your info onto Ellaine.)  And for the second giveaway...the winner of the Petra bracelet is Luann from Newport Beach!  (Luann, Ellaine will be emailing you directly about your new bling.)  Thanks to all of you who entered, and a big thanks to Ellaine for providing such a fabulous giveaway!  Now go listen to some Iron and Wine and tell me you love them as much as I do :)

Stella and dot

Today I am thrilled to be hosting a fabulous and just-in-time-for-summer Stella & Dot giveaway!  I think everyone has heard of Stella & Dot, but in case you've been living under a rock, the company has recently burst onto the scene with fresh, youthful, and one of a kind jewelry designs.  I have been drooling over their stuff for months now, so when Ellaine, an LA based Stella & Dot stylist contacted me about doing a giveaway, I jumped at the chance.  The only thing better than pretty baubles and big bling is gifting pretty baubles and big bling to my fabulous readers!

And to get summer started right, Ellaine has graciously offered TWO prizes.  The first is a $50 gift certificate good towards any purchase in Ellaine's e-boutique.  $50 to spend on whatever your bling loving heart desires!  Here's how to enter:

Celebration Dinner and a Giveaway Winner

Last week, I shared Matt and I's happy news with you, and I can't thank yall enough for all your kind words and sweet messages of encouragement!  Its strange how words and thoughts from people I've never actually "met" can mean so much to us both.  So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for sharing our excitement with us.  We are still pinching ourselves that Chicago is really going to be our long-term-stay here home.  Eeek!  And of course, with good news, comes a celebration dinner :)  Matt got the news late Monday afternoon, so rather than wait for the weekend or scramble to get our friends in the city together, we headed out, just the two of us, to our favorite nearby Asian dinner spot.

DSCN4484Cheers to Matt and his new, very grown up job :)

DSCN4483This is what the face of long awaited stability looks like lol.

DSCN4490You can't go wrong with pad Thai, particularly when its spicy, steaming, and in a heap the size of my head!

DSCN4491Happy and proud me,  raising a little toast to my main man :)

DSCN4493Dear banana wontons, if I would have known you were that good, I would have asked for an IV and an extra order.  I heart you and miss you already.

So there you have it, a few quick pics from our night of celebration.  Can't wait to see all the things we celebrate over the years in this fabulous city!  Oh and ps: apparently my mention of "babies" in that last post got some people a little crazy lol.  Within 24 hours of that post, I had several frantic phone calls, texts, and FB messages asking about my baby comment.  My mom even made it her facebook status lol.  At some point in the future, Matt and I would like to have a baby or two.  Some point (not now) being the key in that sentence lol.

And last but not least...the winners for the L0-Down book giveaway!  Originally I only planned to give away one copy of the book, but last week Matt surprised me with a Kindle (more on that later, I LOVE it!) so I will get Lo's book for my Kindle and pass on the copy I was going to read.  I used random.org to find the winners...and they are...drumroll please...

Alyssa and Chris!

Congrats to you both!  Please email me your mailing address (smartandsassywithsprinkles@gmail.com)  Thanks to everyone who entered, have a fabulous Wednesday!

A Facelift and a Hillsworthy Giveaway

Hey yall, this little blog got a facelift!  (Nothing major, just a few nips and tucks.)  What do you think?  I'd been wanting to change things up, as my old blog was beginning to make me a feel a bit claustrophobic.  But being the computer idiot that I am, I avoided for months, afraid I'd cause my blog to disappear or blow up.  I finally got fed up enough yesterday and took the plunge.  Turns out a few nips and tucks aren't so painful after all.  I wanted something more open and airy, so hopefully this does the trick and makes my blog a better place to visit.

Anyway, I thought we'd celebrate my facelift with a little post-op giveaway!  Its nothing major, just a little something.  So, remember two weeks ago when I hinted at attending a celebutante's book signing in the Chicago area?  Well, apparently my hints weren't too difficult, because several of you smartypants guessed the starlet-turned-author.  Lo Bosworth!  I went days in advance to buy the book and pull a number, got all gussied up for signing, practiced the Kappa handshake to give to her (not kidding), and then wouldn't you know, she cancelled a few hours before the event.  She was feeling "under the weather."  Since she's my Kappa sister, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, but to say I was bummed was an understatement.  The biggest reason I was so bummed wasn't because I couldn't meet her, it was because I had purchased an extra copy of the book for her to sign for one of my lovely blog readers!  Boo for good intentions not working out as planned.  But, since I still have the book, I thought I'd go ahead and give away a copy of The Lo Down, sans Lo's signature.

Lo Bosworth{all images via Hillsfreak}

For this giveway the rules are simple: you must be a follower, and you must leave a comment.  That's it, easy peasy.  As long as you're a follower via Google connect and you leave me a comment, you're entered.  If you want to check out more about the book or Lo, you can visit her website, and if you're a Hills/City/Laguna addict and don't know about the blog Hillsfreak, head over there pronto; its addicting!

The giveaway will close on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:59 pm, and I'll announce the winner later that weekend.  Happy almost-weekend pretties!

Planet Dissertation and a Giveaway Winner

tumblr_l3vjoiPBvH1qblufho1_500_large{we heart it}

Well hello there.  I bet you thought I fell off the planet.  Well, I kind of did.  This past weekend I feel off planet Earth and onto Planet Why-the-hell-did-I-ever-decide-to-get-a-ph.d-my-dissertation-is-ruining-my-life.  Yes, that planet.  It is a terrible, horrible, dark place, and I spent my entire weekend there.  Crouched over my computer, papers scattered everywhere, and 3 cans of Diet Dr. Pepper within arms reach.  I took a few breaks to work shifts at the store and do the obligatory wife thing at a social event for Matt’s job.  Loads of fun I tell you.  And just when I thought the fun was over, I extended my weekend for a Monday stay on Planet-dissertation-hell.  Ugggh.  Horrible, horrible, horrible.  But, the upside?  Tonight I sent in a revised copy of my diss proposal that will hopefully make my chair swoon with admiration.  But most likely, she’ll send it back to me with more edits, and I’ll spend another upcoming weekend on Planet Hell.  Awesome.  Please tell me your weekend was better.  In fact, please tell me all the fun things you did this weekend, so I can live vicariously through you.  Pretty please.

But enough about my less than thrilling weekend, let’s talk a giveaway winner.  Yeah, I know that’s why you’re still reading this post.  You don’t fool me :)

The turnout was great, and I really appreciate all you sweets taking the time to comment separately for each entry.  It made my life so much easier!  So without further ado, the winner of the Misikko giveaway is…(drumroll please…) Lindsay from Sunny with a Chance of Freckles

Woo hoo, congrats pretty girl, random.org loved you!  Email me at smartandsassywithsprinkles@gmail.com and I will get you connected with the Misikko team!  Thanks again to Misikko for hosting such a fab giveaway :)

Thanks to all of you who entered, I really wish you could all win!  But if you didn’t, no worries, I’m hoping to do another giveaway in the near future!

So with that, I must say, I’m happy to be back on Planet Earth, away from Planet Dissertation, and back to a semi normal week!  Hope your week is filled with joy, encouragement, and days where you feel on top of the world.  Much love yall!

Hair Tales: A Misikko Review and GIVEAWAY

Today I am doing my first ever product review.  It’s a big step for me people, I mean, a seriously huge mega step.  Here’s the deal.  I love giveaways, and I’ll do them any chance I get.  If Auto Tire USA wants to give away a tire on my blog, sure I’ll do it, you never know what my readers are into.  (Ok, I lie, tires are a stretch.  But you get my point.  I love my readers and therefore, I love hosting giveaways.)  But I’ve always been terribly afraid of doing a product review.  What if I don’t like it, what if the product sucks, what will I say, I can’t lie to my readers?!  See what I mean, sticky situation for sure.  So I’ve kind of avoided the whole review thing.

Until now.  A few weeks ago, Misikko contacted me about doing a product review (and giveaway) for them.  I resisted an instant reply of “sorry I can’t, I break out in hives at the thought of reviewing something I might not like” and decided to browse around their site a bit.  They have a TON of stuff, and I was surprised to see they carry my beloved Chi and my wishlisted Chi blow dryer.  I wasn’t super happy with my current straightening balm and had been feeling in a bit of a hair rut, so I poked around for something else to use.  Then something caught my eye.  The HANA Shine Shield Thermal Protectant.  It was listed as a customer favorite, and the reviews were out of this world amazing.  One girl said she’d never again use anything else and another said it was the best money she’d ever spent in her life.  Umm, ok, apparently this product has a cult following.  I was curious; I had to try it.  The people at Misikko also sent me a Corioliss Classic Pro Flat Iron to review.

Within two days of my order my goodies arrived.  Two points for prompt service.  I opened the box to find beautifully wrapped goodies and a few sample freebies.  Two more points for attention to detail.  But the real test would be using the product.

And oh my goodness, did Misikko ace the test!  The product, specifically the Shine Shield, was unreal.  Unreal as in omg-life-changing-to-my-hair!  I have never ever felt my hair so soft.  Seriously.  My hair is naturally curly and has endured years of smashing, straightening, pulling, tugging, and coloring like nobody’s business.  One time of using the Shine Shield was like undoing all those years of damage.  No joke.  I kept running my hands through my hair, thinking, “This is insane.  It’s so soft, so straight!  Those reviewers weren’t lying.”  I was sold on its softness for sure.  And after a night of club going in downtown Chicago, followed by crashing on a friend’s couch, I woke up with…straight hair.  No way.  Upon waking up, my hair is typically somewhere between frizzy, curly, and knotted.  But after using the Shine Shield 24 hours before, it was still pretty dang straight.  I was sold.  Right there.  On my friend’s couch.  Sold.

DSCN3360Here is me and my hair this morning of using both the Shine Shield and the Corioless.

I’ve used it several times since then with the same results.  Love, love, love.  I couldn’t be happier, and I seriously have not been this happy with a hair product since I discovered dry shampoo.  I’ve been really happy with the Corioless, though I can’t lie, I’m so caught up in the Shine Shield I can’t really focus clearly.  I’ve always been a Chi fan, but the Corioless have several features that the Chi doesn’t.  See below.

DSCN3351

The power light is on the outside of iron.  The light on my Chi is on the inside, so I forget to turn it off all the dang time.  It also turns from red to green when its hot, unlike my Chi, which goes from flashing red to red (or red to flashing red, I’ve never figured it out.)  It also has grippers along the handle which made it a lot easier to maneuver.  It didn’t slide quite as easily through my hair as my Chi, but I think that is because its brand new and doesn’t have years of product buildup on it :)  After a few days of using it, I realized the tighter grip actually helped straighten my hair better.

So the verdict is in.  The HANA Shine Shield is out of this world amazing, and I’d like to order an endless supply today.  Not kidding.  The flat iron did its thing and gave me straight, straight hair.  And Misikko is a great little site that I clearly need to be ordering from more.

But, guess what?  You don’t have to take my word for it, because Misikko is giving you a chance to WIN these beloved goodies…woo hoo!  A review and a giveaway, I’m in blogger heaven.  (Did I mention the giveaway goodies are valued at $250?)  So…here’s how to win (and there are lots of ways!)

1. You must be a follower to of Smart and Sassy with Sprinkles to win.  (If you’re not already a follower, just become one, it’s easy!)  Leave a comment to enter.  Any comment will do :)

For additional entries…

2. Follow Misikko on Twitter (@misikko)

4. Blog about the giveaway on a personal website and leave me the link in a comment so I can check it out.

5. Join Misikko’s newsletter (3 extra entries)

4. “Like” Misikko on Facebook(www.facebook.com/MisikkoBeauty)

5. Interact with Misikko’s Facebook – Comment on a post or picture, or write on their wall.  Ask them a hair or beauty question if you like! (www.facebook.com/MisikkoBeauty)

Please leave a separate comment for each form of entry.  So if you comment for the first entry, follow them on Twitter, and “like” them on Facebook, you should leave three comments in total.

The giveaway closes Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 11:59 pm.  A winner will be announced later that weekend.  Oh, and the winner must live in either the US or Canada.

Happy commenting, good luck, and a special thanks for Misikko for this giveaway (and changing my hair life!) :)

*PS Misikko didn’t pay me to say these nice things.  I said them because I believe them :)

Reasons I Am Loving Summer and a Giveaway Winner

tumblr_kydj6cEXit1qzyw65o1_500_large{we heart it}

Impromptu picnics with Matt…
Fresh fruit, particularly crunchy red grapes…
Great Chicago weather…
Maxi dresses and tissue cardigans…
Leaving our patio door open all hours of the day…
Late nights with friends…
Not having to take summer classes for the first time in a bazillion years…
Experimenting with fun summer recipes on our new grill…
Sno cones…
My new summer work out routine…
Pink nails…
Evening walks around our new neighborhood pointing out dream houses…
Ponytails…
and summertime visits from friends on vacation.

DSCN3235 Matt and I on a picnic last week at a park just across from our house.  We have a traditional picnic basket, and I always feel so delightfully old fashioned carrying it across the park :)

DSCN3248-1 We’ve only been in Chicago for six weeks and I can already tell the best part is the visitors.  Lots of people come to Chicago to see family, attend conferences, take a quick vacation, etc, and we have been so lucky to see a number of special people during our short time here.  Today, we were so blessed because Jenny, my friend and previous boss in Texas, and her husband were in the Chicago area visiting family.  We got to meet them for lunch, and it was SO good to see them.  I am already counting down till September when I’ll be back in Texas and can see her again :)

And I know I am ridiculously late in announcing the $40 CSN Stores gift card giveaway winner (the weekend completely got away from me) but the winner is…Tamara Nicole!  Congrats girl; send me an email, and I’ll pass on all the info you need to get your goodies.  Thanks to all who entered and to CSN stores for sponsoring.

So what about you…what are your reasons for loving summer?  I’d love to hear!

Hooray for a GIVEAWAY!

Today I am super excited to be doing another giveaway in partnership with CSN Stores.  I really wanted to do a giveaway a few weeks back when I hit 300 followers, but with the move and all, it got a little crazy.  So when they contacted me, I was super excited!  I’ll take any chance I can to thank all of my fabulous readers :)

If you don’t know, CSN Stores has almost everything you can imagine from vanity pretties, to housewares, to bags, and more.  It’s so easy to get lost in their site looking at all the fabulous things they offer.  I tried to narrow it down to one thing I wanted to giveaway, but I couldn’t.  So instead, I’m letting one lucky reader choose!  That’s right, I’m giving away a $40 gift card to CSN stores so that you can buy anything your pretty heart desires!

Hello and happy Sunday!  I hope you all are enjoying a relaxing and refreshing afternoon and end to your weekend.  (I wish I was enjoying those tasty treats in the picture!)  Things here have been relatively peaceful this weekend, as we’ve enjoyed the beautiful weather, dinner with friends, and a fun little silent auction yesterday afternoon.  (Am I the only person who has a weird obsession with silent actions?!  I don’t know if its the good deals, the fact that it goes to a good cause, or the secret sense of competition, but I LOVE silent auctions!)  Its also been so nice to catch up on some much needed rest as well as some little errands that have been piling up lately.

Speaking of stuff that has been piling up, I am a little behind in announcing the giveaway winner!  I hoped to announce it by Friday, but time got away from me and I’m just now getting to it.  Better late than never right? :)  So without further delay…the winner of the chic little travel jewelry box is…

GIVEAWAY: Chic Little Travel Jewelry Box

Lizard Grain Ladies Calf Stud _ Ring Box in BlackMonday I hinted about another giveaway, and I am so excited to announce it today!  CSN Stores contacted me a few weeks ago about doing a giveaway, and I am so excited that they did!  Their site has everything you could imagine from counter stools to home decor to jewelry and luggage.  As soon as I looked around their 200+ sites, I knew exactly what I wanted to give away…something to make my jewelry collection more travel friendly!  I love to pack oodles (yep, that’s a word) of jewelry when I travel, yet I feel like it just gets thrown into a giant black hole.  So I scoured their site, everyjewelrybox.com and found so many delightful choices.  The one I’m giving away though is my favorite!  The Budd Leather Lizard Grain Ladies Calf Stud / Ring Box is the perfect size, completely functional, and totally chic and cute.   It comes in a variety of colors, and given that their inventory stays the same over the next few days, the lucky winner will get to pick the color they want.  And who doesn’t love options?!

So here’s how to enter…

1. You must be a follower to win.  (If you’re not already a follower, just become one, it’s easy!)

2.  Leave a comment to enter.  Any comment will do…your name, “enter me,” “Allison, you’re the bomb.com…” anything will do.  (And yes, I really just said bomb.com!) :)

3.  For a second entry, blog about this giveaway on your blog!  If you do this, please leave a second comment telling me you did this with a link to your blog.

All entries must be received by Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 11:59 pm CT.  The winner will be chosen at random and will be announced on Friday, April 9.  Happy commenting and best of luck to all those who enter.  I can’t wait to see who will be traveling organized and in style!

Philadelphia Fun and Giveaway Winner!

Yo Adrian blog readers!  (Rocky reference, will explain later, I swear…)  Matt and I are about at the end of our trip to Philadelphia, and though I usually wait until I’m home to blog trip wrap ups, the torrential downpour outside is keeping us tucked away in the hotel tonight.  The weather has been out of control here (and by out of control I mean awful, cold, and full of sideways rain), but nonetheless, we found some time between conference presentations and 35 mile an hour rainy winds to explore the City of Brotherly Love.  (If you really don’t care about our trip, no hurt feelings, sniff sniff, but scroll to the bottom for the giveaway winner.)

DSCN1861 We flew out of Houston, and I was so happy that we flew Continental because it meant we got to use The President’s Club, woo hoo! Matt and I use Hotwire to book a lot of our flights, and since we hadn’t flown Continental in a while, I toootally forgot we had this little President’s Club perk thanks to our Amex.  Airports are not my favorite places in the world, but these cushy chairs and free breakfast/coffee/booze/wireless make them delightfully more bearable!

DSCN1864 Wednesday after checking into both the hotel and the conference (we had to pick up our nerd alert badges), we explored the city and found a hot little dinner spot.  The Continental is a restaurant and martini bar with a retro-hip feel that apparently lots of Philadelphians find quite cool, and we would have to agree.  It was yummy, and our favorite dish of the night was this Crispy Calamari Salad.  Chopped greens, carrots, tomatoes, sprouts, and calamari, in a soy ginger dressing.  Oh.my.gah.it.was.so.good.I.cannot.even.explain.it.  I will no doubt crave this salad for the rest of my life.

DSCN1870 Thursday morning Matt and I headed out for the conference bright and freaking early.  (My husband has to be early to everything, which does not sit well with this always-running-late-kind-of-girl.)  He insisted on wearing his badge as we walked downtown, pegging him as a total tourist.  I preferred the taking pictures everywhere we go pegging method :)

DSCN1873 After several very interesting presentations (cough, cough, not really), we headed to the Reading Terminal Market for lunch.  We kind of stumbled on this place, and I am SO glad we did.  It was awe-some.  (So awesome, I had to hyphenate awesome.)  There were hundreds of  local merchants selling baked goods, meats, poultry, seafood, produce, flowers, Amish specialties, cookware, and every type of cuisine you could imagine.  We snagged a spot at the Down Home Diner and split a fried egg burger.  Gotta get in healthy poultry even on the road ;)  I also picked up some dark chocolate covered raisins from of the vendors.  (Raisins = healthy, right?!)

DSCN1877 Friday morning we sketched out on the conference, and took a double decker bus tour of the city.  I know, I know, it’s a touristy thing to do, but we were tourists, so it was a must (and a good way to see the city.)  Matt and I’s favorite stop on the tour was the Philadelphia Art Museum, and it had absolutely nothing to do with the art.  The steps leading up to the museum are the famous Rocky steps (cue “Eye of the Tiger” please.)  Here we are posing with Sylvester, who clearly needs to work on his abs a little more.

ryan rocky Total sidenote: a few summers ago when we were in Rome, my brother did his best Rocky impression at the top of the Spanish Steps (shown here.)  At that time, I had no idea what he was referring to because I’d never actually seen the movie Rocky.  After being married to Matt for nine months, I have been forced to watch Rocky 950 times and now get the reference :)

DSCN1884 Me at the top of the real Rocky steps.  I think I injected too much of a drill team “high V” into my Rocky impression.  The popped knee doesn’t look very authentic either :)

DSCN1883 Matt and I at the top…Yo Adrian!  PS: please notice that my nostrils are flared in this picture because I was so out of breath from the run up the steps.  It was seriously pathetic.  Half way up the steps, I had to pause for air.  When we got back to the bus, a seemingly sweet, white haired man commented on my failure to make it all the way up the steps without stopping.  “You didn’t even make it all the way up before stopping sweetie.”  Well thanks gramps for pointing out to the whole dang bus that I’m an out-of-shape-fatty.  You rock.

DSCN1888 Speaking of fatty…we later stopped off in south Philly for an “authentic” Philly cheesesteak from Geno’s.  (So “authentic” it was $8.25.  Pssh, authentic my butt.)  I didn’t really see the big fuss, but Matt really wanted to try one, so when in Rome Philly…

DSCN1891 After the lunch disappointment, we visited Ralph’s in South Philly, which is the oldest family run Italian restaurant in the United States, for a cannolli and coffee.  I’d never actually had a cannolli before, and though I despise ricotta cheese, it was pretty good.  And this place was pretty authentic, so it was a legit first experience in my book.  (PS: I know it looks like all we did on this trip was eat and go to our nerd conference, but just FYI, Matt and I split meals when we’re out of town.   I failed to mention that in my State Fair post, and about ten of my friends later questioned my appetite, as well as my cholesterol.)

DSCN1895 Next big stop of the day, Independence Hall.  I know its where our founding fathers laid the groundwork for our country (and I am forever grateful, seriously I am), but at this point in the rainy day, I hit my breaking point.  I was over it.  Historied out, rained out, toured out, and walked out.  I proceeded to whine, complain, and be annoying till we got inside.  Nooooot one of my better moments.  We also saw the Liberty Bell on this stop and took a tour of the hall behind us, which was cool to see.  At the end of the tour, I asked if we were going to see the Declaration of Independence.  Matt laughed at me in embarrassment, and said, “No honey, it’s in Washington DC.”  Oh yeah, oopsie… :)

All in all, our trip to Philly was a success.  A soggy success, but a success nonetheless.  Our presentation went well and we were able to get in some good sightseeing and some yummy food.  But now, for the part of the post most of you tuned in for…the giveaway winner…drumroll please…

vvv-1

And the winner is…Summer Wind!  Woo hoo, congratulations, random.org should be your new BFF :)  Email me your mailing address at smartandsassywithsprinkles@gmail.com, and I will get your new Kate Spade lovely shipped out to you.  Congrats girl!

To all those who didn’t win, dry your tears, I have a feeling there are more giveaways in Smart and Sassy’s future.  This one was too fun not to do another!  So now that you’ve read way more than you probably cared to about my time in Philadelphia (why do my posts always end up being way longer than I anticipate?) tell me, what was your weekend like?  I can’t wait to hear!  Lots of love to you all!

GIVEAWAY: Kate Spade Delight

I hit 150 followers tonight and as promised here is my first blog giveaway!  Time for a little celebratory dance… “woo hoo, get smart, get sassy, with sprinkles, oh yeah, break it down.” (Did you read that last line with spunk, funk, and a little head bopping, because you were totally supposed to.)  Anyway, enough of my gigantic dorkiness, here is the giveaway…

vvv Kate Spade Big Apple Zippered Chrissy

Isn’t it so pretty?!  It comes in a variety of colors, but I of course had to go with “gifting pink.”  Very sprinkles appropriate, don’t you think?  And of course, I bought one for myself too :)  Here’s what the Kate Spade website said about this little gem: “Bright and shiny, just like it's namesake, this mini handbag-cum-wallet is crafted in high-gloss vinyl in playful "lite-brite" colors. It's embossed with an oversized Kate Spade New York signature for the perfect pièce de résistance. With a detachable wristlet, this cheery style fits the bill as a clutch or tucked away in your handbag as a pouch for your prettiest pennies.”

Details: zippered closure with detachable wrist strap…14-karat light gold plated hardware…4.4"h x 8.1"w

I am so excited about this giveaway, and I hope you all like this Kate Spade lovely as much as I do.  I ADORE Kate Spade, and I think she does "grown up whimsy" perfectly.  She always finds a way to inject a fun playfulness into even the most functional pieces.   She is also a Kappa, so we share a sisterly bond :)  To enter to win the Kate Spade Big Apple Zippered Chrissy, here are the rules...

1. You must be a follower to win.  (If you’re not already a follower, just become one, it’s easy!)

2.  Leave a comment to enter.  Any comment will do…your name, “enter me,” “Allison you freaking rock,” or anything else your heart desires :)

3.  For a second entry, blog about this giveaway on your blog!  If you do this, please leave a second comment telling me you did this with a link to your blog.

OMG, I Won Something?!

I don't have good luck.  Okay, I don't have horrible luck, but I don't have particulary serendipitous luck either.  I have always been that person who enters contests, drawings, raffles, etc. and then looks on disappointingly as the person two numbers next to me or two rows in front of me wins.  I cheer because its polite, but then think, next time Allison, you'll get 'em next time.  Well guess what people?  I finally got 'em; I finally won a contest!

Remember a few days ago when I blogged about those fabulous, whimsical designs from Lisa Leonard designs.  The reason I knew about them was because Carrie from Buzzings of a Queen Bee raved about them in her blog.  But Carrie didn't stop the love there.  She offered a chance to win one of Lisa Leonard's monogrammed key chains or delightlful pair of mint green and silver drop earrings.  All you had to do was leave a comment.  Umm, how easy is that?  So I left a quick comment, something to the effect of "love love love both, and in addition, i also love love love your blog! :)"  Simple and straightforward right?  Well guess what people?  Out of 212 people who left comments, I was 1 of 2 winners!  Woo hoo!  Two points for me!  Touchdown!  I mean seriously, can you sense my excitement?  So check out the fabulous new earrings I will soon be rocking!  (I loved the keychain as well, but with my new, complicated, hyphenated last name, I haven't quite mastered the monogram.)  So I guess my unlucky streak is over.  Orrrr maybe I've just used up all my luck for the next ten years.  Either way, no complaining here; I'll take it!

Thanks again to both Carrie and Lisa!  I can't wait to show off my new earrings!
